Consumer Rights FAQs

Here are answers to some common questions about our legal services for Consumer Rights.

What are my rights if I buy a faulty product?

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If they are not, you have a "short-term right to reject" within 30 days for a full refund. After 30 days, you are generally entitled to a repair or replacement.

Can I cancel a service contract if I change my mind?

If you bought the service online or over the phone, you typically have a 14-day "cooling-off" period to cancel. If you bought it in person, cancellation rights depend on the contract terms, unless the terms are deemed unfair.

What counts as an unfair contract term?

A term may be unfair if it creates a significant imbalance in rights to the consumer’s detriment, such as excessive cancellation fees or hidden clauses that alter the product. We can review contracts to determine if a term is legally binding.

How do I make a claim for misrepresentation?

You must prove that you entered into a contract based on a false statement of fact made by the seller. If successful, you may be able to unwind the contract (rescission) or claim damages. We help gather the necessary evidence to prove reliance on the false statement.

Is it worth taking a consumer dispute to court?

Court should be a last resort. We often resolve disputes through formal letters or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) schemes. However, for high-value items like vehicles or property services, litigation may be necessary and cost-effective.
